1 2023-10-27 2 3 A new use for wrpr.us I just came up with!!! (Fist personal post 4 too, but still kind of an update) 5 6 So while visiting Ashburn, Va (Data center ally) I needed access 7 to my network, but Wireguard was acting up for some reason... BUT 8 I remembered a cool tool I found a while back; Drum roll 9 please... SSHUTTLE!!! to the rescue. So far it's reliable, fast 10 and easy to use. So from now on if any user of wrpr.us needs a 11 quick VPN just shoot me William (Linear) a msg on IRC, email or 12 even mail me on the wrpr.us minecraft server (new plugin alert!) 13 and just tell me your intended use so I can keep track of what 14 comes across the network. 15 16 So whats up in Ashburn? 17 18 I'm here for some amateur boxing and not much else! I've also 19 wanted to come up here for a while just to see all the data cen- 20 ters. I once thought about data-center engineering as a career 21 path, still might. BUT the reality of seeing these things, it on- 22 ly cements my beliefs on small scale hosting and self hosting. 23 It's kind of depressing really. Behemoths of concrete and steel, 24 nearly devoid of life and seeing the backdrop of the Appalachians 25 really has a dystopian cyberpunk feel. I've called those moun- 26 tains home for 10 years now, the fresh air, wild life, the sense 27 of comradery and friendship among a community smaller than the 28 occupancy of the hotel I'm staying at. All juxtaposed with this 29 cold, isolated place of uncaring wires and monuments; it really 30 makes me feel a little uneasy. 31 32 I used to believe that due to my surroundings of barely any peo- 33 ple and a slow internet connection that I wanted out, back to the 34 city where I belonged, where I can have a career that mattered. 35 But several Maciej Ceglowski talks and just about all of Luke 36 Smiths videos and blog posts later I've changed my tune.
